Employers: Start With Clarity & Intention

Employers, do you have a clear understanding of how and who you want to hire next? Does your team, let alone your company know you are hiring? Do they know the position, the needs and wants of whom you would like to hire? Do you, the hiring manager, even know?

In today’s world, hiring is a crap shoot!! Yes, I said it out loud. Applicants want a new company where they are going to be valued and respected so they can do the work they love to do. Employers want to hire. However, whom they want to hire, when they want to hire, how they want to hire, they haven’t figured that out yet. Have you??

Here is a rule of thumb to make everyone’s life easier and more consistent: Write it out first. Make changes, and mostly, make everyone aware and get everyone on board.

Write out the kind of person you can see in the role and include it all:

  • Experience

  • Culture

  • Education

  • Personality

  • What you want their value to offer the company

  • What is the main purpose of the role

  • Why is the role open and where will the role take the next hire

  • I want to hire only-remote, hybrid, in office-and be very clear on this, do not waver!!

Applicants are getting frustrated, confused and they think it is their fault. Please let them know it isn’t them, it is you. You need to know your answers before you post. You need to make sure that everyone who helps with the hiring is on board and ready to interview. You do need to stop posting for the fun of it. Fishing is for the outdoors and for fish, not for individuals to send you their resume that they worked long and hard on for your fun. PLEASE STOP THAT!

And if you receive over 100 resumes, by golly, take down the post and start interviewing. Stop doing what you are doing and get back to reality.

Know what you want. Our employment rate is under 4% right now, but we still have enough individuals who want and deserve to work with respectable and accomplished companies. I mean, that IS the kind of person you want for your company too, right? Than let’s get the show on the road.

You will be amazed at how happy your employees will be and you will see the progression of your company takes over in a short amount of time, if you just hire!

Of course, this is all just my opinion people, but I think it is a darn good one.

Happy hiring, employers.
